Details Finalized for Rec Center on LTC Campus
The Crawford County Recreation Center and Illinois Eastern Community College finalized the terms for the transfer of funds to start construction on a new recreation center on the campus of Lincoln Trail College. Construction work on the new facility will begin in the early spring and is expected to be completed by late 2022. 鈥淭his is very exciting,鈥 said CCRC president Bill Sandiford. 鈥淭his has been a grassroots effort for several years and now we鈥檙e moving forward with the project.鈥

OCC Community Choral Concert December 11
The Olney Central College Music Department will present The Many Moods of Christmas choral concert at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 11 at the Richland County High School Auditorium. This special evening of holiday music will feature the OCC Concert and Community choirs along with the RCHS Concert Choir.

IECC Awards $180,000 in Success Scholarships
Frontier Community, Lincoln Trail, Olney Central, and Wabash Valley colleges awarded nearly $180,000 to area high school students in the first round of Illinois Eastern Community Colleges鈥 Priority Deadline Success Scholarships. IECC Director of Financial Aid Andrea Puckett said the tuition awards demonstrate IECC鈥檚 commitment to seeing area students successfully achieve their higher education goals. The scholarships are renewable for up to four semesters 鈥 Fall 2022, Spring 2023, Fall 2023, and Spring 2024, not including summer courses.

WVC physics professor explains partial lunar eclipse
Tonight, Mount Carmel and the surrounding region will experience a partial lunar eclipse, one of the two to cover our region this year. The peak of the eclipse will take place at 3 a.m., but Wabash Valley College鈥檚 physics professor Andy King explained that the action starts taking place much sooner. 鈥淲hile the eclipse technically begins at midnight, the visible action really starts at about 1:15 a.m.

Free Basic Computer Classes Focus on Google Workspace
Olney Central College will offer a free basic computer class this spring focusing on how to access and utilize Google Workspace. CIS 1601 Computer Skills 1 will meet in the Anderson Library computer lab from 6 to 8:50 p.m. on Tuesdays, beginning Jan. 11. The 8-week class will be taught by Jane McCormick, the Instructor for OCC鈥檚 Information Systems Technology Program. 鈥淭he class will be ideal for people who want to learn more about the computer and would like to understand more about the Google products they can use for free,鈥 McCormick said.

$10,000 Scholarship Established in Honor of Nursing Instructor Wanda Douglas
During her teaching career, Wanda Douglas has trained and inspired a generation of nurses working in healthcare facilities across the country. Her dedication to the nursing profession and community has left a lasting impression on many, including two former students who created a $10,000 scholarship in her honor. Douglas says she was shocked when the two donors, who wish to remain anonymous, contacted her late last fall. Over the years, the pair had never forgotten Douglas鈥 kindness to them while nursing students at 黑料社.
